A Toronto-based collector whose passion in wine ignited while dining frequently in the city's restaurants. He then married a woman from France and spent extended periods travelling around the country, tasting wines from all the top regions. All the wines except the magnum of port were bought directly from local importers or the LCBO. Everything was stored from purchase at the Vintage Conservatory in Toronto.
The score for 2020 Maison Ponsot Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru is 92-94 from Robert Parker and the tasting note - The 2020 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru opens in the glass with aromas of citrus zest, fresh bread, pear and beeswax. Full-bodied, taut and chalky, it's incisive and tightly wound, with lovely depth at the core and a long, tangy finish. The 2020 vintage at Domaine Ponsot marks the first time in history that this estate has begun the harvest in the month of August. Coming in at between 13.5% and 14% alcohol, these are powerful, concentrated Burgundies with deep, saturated hues, vibrant acids and serious musculature, and they will demand some bottle age. The 2019s, revisited from bottle, are also rich, lavish wines, bursting with fruit that almost conceals serious structure that will also reward patience.
