A Quebec-based consignor, he developed an interest in wine after dining at Bistro Champlain and enjoying bottles from its iconic cellar. He has been collecting for the past 15 years, during which he primarily purchased bottles through the SAQ, though he also added to his collection while traveling or at auction. His wine collection was carefully stored in his home cellar, maintained at a consistent 12°C with humidity levels between 45-49%.
The rating for 2021 Bethel Heights Casteel Estate Pinot Noir Eola Amity Hills AVA is 99 points from Robert Parker and the tasting note - The 2021 Pinot Noir Casteel comes from vines on the western side of the property, planted in 1992, 1996 and 1997. It's expressive and dynamic, offering surprising depth of flavor for its elegant frame. Medium ruby, it has layered scents of pomegranate, rhubarb and red cherry with accents of garrigue, aniseed, mossy bark and tea leaves. The medium-bodied palate is highly concentrated, its deep well of fruit streaked with touches of iron-like mineral character. It has powerful yet finely grained tannins and bursts of mouthwatering acidity that call you in again for another sip on the very long finish. This thrilling Pinot Noir offers just about everything you could want from this grape - alluring perfume, complex layers of spice and earth, harmonious structure and fantastic length.
The rating for 2021 Bethel Heights Vineyard Justice Vineyard Pinot Noir Eola Amity Hills is 98+ points from Robert Parker and the tasting note - The 2021 Pinot Noir Justice Vineyard comes from a single block of 667 clone vines and is one of the most impressive Pinot expressions I've encountered from the 2021 vintage in the Willamette Valley so far. Medium ruby-purple, it has intense, singular and pure aromatics - cranberry, rhubarb and blueberry are accented by fine touches of conifer, aniseed, iron and pipe tobacco, and it continues to shift and change as it spends time in the glass. The medium-bodied palate is powerful, offering highly concentrated, detailed fruit and a support of abundant, powdery tannins. It has seamless, energetic acidity and haunting streaks of spice and earth that fan across the tremendously long finish. It's difficult to put this wine down, although it will reward drinkers patient enough to tuck it away in the cellar.
