Amrut 8 Years Old Greedy Angels Chairman’s Reserve is a limited-edition Indian single malt from Amrut, originally released in 2013 to celebrate the 60th birthday of Amrut chairman Neelakanta Jagdale. This is the second edition, bottled in 2017. The name ‘Greedy Angels’ refers to the concept of angels’ share, the amount of whisky that is lost to evaporation during the maturation process. Due to India’s warm climate, Amrut has an angels’ share of up to 15% per year (compared to about 2% in cooler climates such as Scotland). Amrut therefore rarely matures their whisky for longer than 4 years (because there wouldn’t be much left…), making this 8-year-old very rare indeed! Amrut 8 Years Old Greedy Angels Chairman’s Reserve is made with unpeated Indian barley and Scottish peated barley, and has been matured in exceptional hand-selected casks before being bottled at 50%. The single malt reveals a great depth and complexity, with notes of honey, vanilla, citrus, tropical fruits and subtle peat. In the end, those greedy angels only left enough whisky for 1350 bottles.
