A vintage wine enthusaist who, in his working years, travelled frquently to Central and Eastern Europe. He would stop from time to time at the Fonte de Medici, a B&B on the Antinori Estate that is nestled beside the Solaia and Tignanello vineyards. All three bottles of 2000 Solaia and some of the Tignanello bottles were purchased at Osteria Passignano, a wine bar and restaurant in Badia a Passignano where he used to meet up with one of the winemakers for a portfolio tasting. The Tignanello and the Don Melchor wines were purchased from the LCBO on release. All the wines were stored in a climate-controlled wine cellar in the collector's home.
NV Jacques Selosse Lieux Dits La Cote Faron Ay Extra Brut Grand Cru Champagne from this lot has the following scores - James Suckling 98 points, The Wine Advocate 97 points, Vinous 96 points. This is the tasting note for NV Jacques Selosse Lieux Dits La Cote Faron Ay Extra Brut Grand Cru Champagne from Robert Parker - Based on the 2018 vintage and disgorged in January 2025 without dosage, Selosse’s NV Blanc de Noirs Aÿ La Côte Faron unfurls from the glass with a flamboyant bouquet of pear, dried apricot and brioche, mingled with notes of orange oil and almond paste. On the palate, it is full-bodied, deep and enveloping, delivering a rich core of fruit without any sense of precocity. Ripe yet lively acidity lends energy, carrying through to a long, resonant and flavorful finish. Shaped by the high maturity conferred by the site—defined by intense daytime heat and tempered only by cooling winds (hence its former name, Contraste)—it remains, as ever, one of the richest and most demonstrative wines in the portfolio. It is further distinguished by the oldest historical blend among all the lieux-dits, dating back to 1994.
