It may be hard to imagine today, but for much of the 20th century, Macallan was primarily a constituent malt in blends. It was not until the 1980s downturn in the market that the distillery decided to focus on its single malt brand. The Macallan Anniversary Malt is a 25-year-old single malt bottled in the early 2000s. Part of the limited-release Anniversary Malt series, it was matured in sherry oak casks and has a strength of 43% ABV. Nose- Dried fruits such as raisins, figs, and sultanas. Spices including clove, cinnamon, and nutmeg, with notes of orange zest and dark chocolate. Palate- The taste includes dried fruits such as dates, prunes, and raisins. Warm spices are present, including cinnamon, allspice, and a hint of black pepper. Notes of chocolate and toffee are combined with orange marmalade. Finish- Exceptionally long and warming with a sophisticated blend of dark chocolate, sherry-soaked fruits, and subtle spices, enhanced by a hint of aged oak.
