A collector for over forty years, the consignor's interest was sparked by a 1981 tasting of Clos de Tart, leading him to start his collection the very next year. About 98% of his cellar was bought right at release, including a large selection of Bordeaux futures. He sourced these through the ALCB before 1994 and from premier private retailers in Alberta ever since. The wines have been kept in a custom, insulated 50-square-foot cellar, cooled to a steady 12°C. To ensure they stayed in great shape, he used a remote monitoring system to keep a constant eye on both temperature and humidity.
1997 Chateau Palmer Margaux from this lot has the following scores - CellarTracker 91 points, Wine Spectator 90 points. This is the tasting note for 1997 Chateau Palmer Margaux from Wine Spectator - Classy wine. Lovely berry, plum and floral character. Medium-bodied, with silky tannins and a long, fruity finish. Love to drink this stuff. 1998 Chateau Palmer Margaux from this lot has the following scores - Vinous 94 points, Jeannie Cho Lee (formerly Asian Palate) 92 points, Jean-Marc Quarin 92 points, CellarTracker 92 points. This is the tasting note for 1998 Chateau Palmer Margaux from Robert Parker - A classic Margaux, the 1998 Palmer has put on weight and fleshed out during its elevage in barrel. It displays a dense purple color as well as a sumptuous bouquet of black fruits, licorice, melted asphalt, pain grille, and a touch of acacia flowers. Full-bodied, with brilliant definition, this blend of equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, with a dollop of Petit Verdot, will age well for 20-30 years. It is one of the Medoc's, as well as the Margaux appellation's finest wines of the vintage. 1999 Chateau Palmer Margaux from this lot has the following scores - The Wine Advocate 96 points, Jeff Leve The Wine Cellar Insider 96 points, Jamie Goode 95 points, Falstaff Magazine 95 points, Jean-Marc Quarin 94 points, Decanter 94 points. This is the tasting note for 1999 Chateau Palmer Margaux from Robert Parker - In magnum, the 1999 Palmer is drinking beautifully, offering up a deep and lavish bouquet of cherries and berries mingled with hints of cigar box and violets. Full-bodied, broad and enveloping, with a sumptuous core of fruit, velvety tannins and a long, expansive finish, it's impressively seamless and concentrated and stands out as one of the vintage's high points. Drunk side by side with Château Margaux, also in magnum, it enjoyed a narrow but persuasive lead.
