This prestigious collection comes to Iron Gate from a revered connoisseur and long-time wine collector. Lover of American wines, he spent many years sourcing them from some of the USA's finest properties and had them stored professionally at 55 Degrees in Napa Valley. Recognizing his cellar had grown far beyond what he could reasonably consume, he's brought the wines to auction to share with fellow enthusiasts.
The score for2002 Domaine Meo Camuzet Vosne Romanee Les Chaumes Premier Cru is 91 from Allen Meadows and this is the tasting note -A restrained nose of relatively austere but ripe and spicy black fruit aromas slide into sappy, lush and opulent if still firmly structured medium-bodied flavors that finish with real verve and excellent length. I like the ample Vosne character though this is presently quite backward and will require a few more years for the flavors to really blossom. The score for2001 Domaine Meo Camuzet Vosne Romanee Les Chaumes Premier Cru is 92 from Allen Meadows and this is the tasting note -(this was concentrated by 4 to 5%). The manipulations this wine underwent have been shrugged off and this is much more harmonious than it was when I saw it just after bottling. There is now a hint of secondary fruit in evidence though the airy, spicy, fresh and wonderfully pure and complex nose is still largely primary in basic character as it leads to detailed, vibrant and sweet flavors that culminate in a finish that is distinctly linear, indeed almost a bit strict at present. Still, the transparency here is marvelous and while this is clearly still on the way up, it's more on the order of 5 years away from its peak. In a word, lovely.
