A consignor who began collecting spirits around 20 years ago, he took great pleasure in sourcing unique and rare bottles with the intention of sharing them with friends. Most of his collection was acquired through reputable Canadian retailers such as AGLC, LCBO, SAQ, and NSLC, with a few special finds also picked up during his travels across the US. Each bottle was stored upright in a climate-controlled basement cellar.
Barrel 3. The inaugural Boss Hog release was comprised of only 24 single barrels hand selected by Master Distiller Dave Pickerell from well-aged Canadian rye whisky. That right, Canadian rye whisky as Whistlepig started out by sourcing the best rye in the world from an Alberta distiller. Released in 2013 this bottle pre-dates the distillery opening its facility in 2015. The Boss Hog Spice Dancer was hand bottled at cask strength in Vermont after aging for approximately 12 years and 9 months, likely distilled in the year 2000. The Spice Dancer established the foundation for WhistlePig’s iconic Boss Hog series, which has since evolved into an annual release known for its innovation and craftsmanship. Each subsequent edition explores unique finishing techniques and storytelling elements, but the Spice Dancer remains a standout for its bold character and rareness. It is the lowest yield of all Boss Hogs bottlings in the series. Most people enjoyed their bottles of this Canadian rye without the need for water and its flavours of rye bread, currants, caramel, hot chocolate, and sweet spice at pleasing to the connoisseurs of fine whisky.
