A Toronto based consignor of Scottish dissent fell in love with peaty single malts in his 30s. He joined a whisky tasting club in Toronto and visited the largest single malt bar in the city and began seriously collecting in 1999. He has amassed a large collection, including the largest collection of Rosebank whisky in Canada and has decided to sell some of it. While he has purchased from private retailers in Alberta and the LCBO, most of his bottles come from auctions in Scotland or he buys bottles on his frequent trips to Scotland. The 30 year old Macallan Fine Oak he is selling was purchased new in 2007 at Charles de Gaulle airport making this bottle in cask in either 1996 or 1997. He built a custom single malt whisky bar in his home, holding over 200 unopened bottles. No direct light and 15C.

Single Cask. 1/165. This single cask malt was distilled in 1979 at the Port Ellen distillery and bottled in 2011 by Douglas Laing & Co for their Old & Rare Collection. One of only 165 bottles produced. Port Ellen was the lost jewel in the Islay crown, closed by DCL (now Diageo) in 1983 due to an oversupply of peated whisky for blending and a perceived lack of interest in it as a single malt. It has developed a legendary status in the years since and in 2024 reopened and started making new spirit on Islay. Port Ellen has become one of the most sought-after whiskies in the world. Increasingly rare to find bottlings from the closed distillery era and collectors should not hesitate to secure one of Islays finest. #liquidhistory
