This collection has come from a long line of seasoned wine enthusiasts, cellared under temperature and humidity control in an estate North of Toronto. A shift in preferences has lead them to liquidate some of their cellar, and we are fortunate to be able to offer these bottles at IronGate.Wine.
The wine in this lot has a score of 96-99 from Robert Parker and the following tasting note -Baudoin's top wine, the 1996 Coteaux du Layon Apres Minuit ("after midnight") possesses a blood orange and golden hued color and aromas of orange marmalade and flowers. It has an extraordinary viscosity and layered, virtually oozing flavors of candied dried cherries, raisins, currants and flowers. Its seemingly unending finish tails off on notes of quince, almond paste and raspberry jam. Patrick Baudoin is one of the producers of Coteaux du Layon derogatorily known by some of their peers as "sugar hunters." An intelligent and quality-driven vigneron, Baudoin makes every effort to draw as much sweetness and concentration out of his grapes. He refuses to chaptalise his wines, which the laws governing the appellation allow.
