A collector, based in Toronto, became interested in wine while visiting his father-in-law in Hong Kong over 60 years ago. He also owned a restaurant that had an impressive wine list and was was able to visit many wineries throughout France. He continued collecting after selling the restaurant with most of his bottles purchased upon release from the LCBO. He took meticulous care of his wine, labeling many of the bottles and storing them in a temperature and humidity controlled cellar in his home.

The score for 2000 Chateau Kirwan Margaux is 90 from Robert Parker and the tasting note - Still somewhat tannic but very much in the style that Kirwan has favored over recent vintages, this is a full-bodied, muscular, powerhouse effort. The wine still has a dense ruby/purple color, with loads of blackberries, cassis, and some noticeable new oak still lingering in the background. Powerful, rich, and full, this wine needs another 2-3 years of cellaring and should age nicely for another 20 years. The score for 2001 Chateau Kirwan Margaux is 90 from Robert Parker and the tasting note - The 2001 Kirwan is nearly as good as their splendid 2000. A dense purple color is accompanied by a bouquet of barbecue smoke, graphite, black cherries, creme de cassis, and a hint of espresso. Full-bodied and layered, with outstanding richness, purity, and sweetness on the palate, this firmly structured, well-delineated, impressively made, full throttle effort should hit its peak in 2-3 years, and last for 12-15. It will be one of the longest lived of the 2001 Medocs.
