This prestigious collection comes to Iron Gate from a revered connoisseur and long-time wine collector. Lover of American wines, he spent many years sourcing them from some of the USA's finest properties and had them stored professionally at 55 Degrees in Napa Valley. Recognizing his cellar had grown far beyond what he could reasonably consume, he's brought the wines to auction to share with fellow enthusiasts.
The rating for 2007 Arietta Red Variation One is 94 points from Robert Parker and the tasting note - A blend of 55% Syrah and 45% Merlot, the 2007 Variation One reveals smoky bacon notes intermixed with notions of boysenberries, wild flowers, forest floor, pepper, and wood spice. Drink this medium to full-bodied, supple red over the next 6-7 years. Andy Erickson makes these wines for the well-known auctioneer, classical pianist, and wine personality Fritz Hatton. The rating for 2007 Lucia Susan's Hill Syrah is 95 points from Robert Parker and the tasting note - Even better than their awesome 2005, the 2007 Lucia Syrah Susan's Hill has knockout, cool climate aromas of earthy, mineral laced blackberries, black pepper, fresh cut flowers, charcoal and subtle graphite. It’s very pretty and wows with purity, finesse and edge more than power and exuberance. In the mouth, the wine is medium to full bodied with a seamless, silky texture, firm, solid underlying structure and a clean, beautifully long finish. This opened up with about an hour of air and should drink well over the next 10+.
