This prestigious collection comes to Iron Gate from a revered connoisseur and long-time wine collector. Lover of American wines, he spent many years sourcing them from some of the USA's finest properties and had them stored professionally at 55 Degrees in Napa Valley. Recognizing his cellar had grown far beyond what he could reasonably consume, he's brought the wines to auction to share with fellow enthusiasts.
The score for 2007 Domaine Isabel Ferrando Colombis Chateauneuf du Pape is 100 points from Robert Parker and the tasting note - A wine I’ve had numerous times, yet never as spectacular as on this occasion, the 100% Grenache 2007 Châteauneuf du Pape Colombis sports a deep ruby, opaque color to go with a huge nose of lavender, incense, Provencal herbs, licorice and ground pepper. Nothing comes closer to representing the essence of Provence, and this full-bodied, unctuous, elegant and sexy effort has sweet tannin, not a single hard edge to be found and a blockbuster finish. It’s drinking so well now, I don’t see any reason to hold off, but I suspect it will keep for another decade.
