This prestigious collection comes to Iron Gate from a revered connoisseur and long-time wine collector. Lover of American wines, he spent many years sourcing them from some of the USA's finest properties and had them stored professionally at 55 Degrees in Napa Valley. Recognizing his cellar had grown far beyond what he could reasonably consume, he's brought the wines to auction to share with fellow enthusiasts.
The rating for 2007 Linne Calodo Cellars Nemesis Paso Robles is 95 points from Robert Parker and the tasting note - Another of the last of the 2007s hitting the market includes the 2007 Nemesis (82% Syrah and the rest Mourvedre). It’s a powerhouse at 15.8% alcohol, aged almost completely in 350-liter hogsheads. The unusually high percentage of Syrah has given it an almost opaque purple color, with an extraordinary nose of black raspberries, graphite, acacias flowers, and crushed rock. Its sweet tannins, superb purity, full-bodied mouthfeel and long finish are stunning. It should last for 10-12 years. This is one of my favorite wineries in the Central Coast. The brain trust behind it is the one and only Matt Trevisan, who has moved into a state-of-the-art winery and barrel-aging facility. Additionally, he is just beginning to get some fruit off the first plantings in the 18-acre estate vineyard. Production is up to about 3,800 to 4,000 cases, although like everyone else in the Central Coast region, yields have been very small in 2007, 2008, and 2009. 2008 has turned out very well for Trevisan, but the yields were extremely small. If you haven’t discovered the wines of Linne Calodo, it’s about time as this is one of the up-and-coming superstar performers in Paso Robles.
The rating for 2009 Linne Calodo Cellars Sticks Stones Paso Robles is 92 points from Robert Parker and the tasting note - The 2009 Sticks and Stones is a gorgeous wine laced with fragrant red cherries, plums, flowers, spices and sweet herbs, all of which come together beautifully. Soft and textured throughout, the 2009 Sticks and Stones possesses gorgeous length and an attractive, open-knit personality. Bright red fruit notes reappear on the finish. In 2009 the blend is 64% Grenache, 29% Mourvedre and 7% Syrah. The rating for 2010 Linne Calodo Overthinker Paso Robles is 94 points from Robert Parker and the tasting note - The 2011 The Overthinker is another remarkable wine that comes from vines planted around the estate. Beautiful in every way, with loads of kirsch, blackberry, toasted spice, crushed flowers and dried underbrush, it flows onto the palate with a voluptuous, decadent texture, fantastic purity and serious length. Made from 45% Grenache, 33% Syrah and 22% Mourvedre, it’s hard to resist now, yet I see no reason it won’t evolve gracefully for upwards of a decade. This was a fantastic lineup of wines by proprietor Matt Trevisan and all of the current releases have brilliant purity of fruit and a lively, energetic feel without ever coming across as lean. Blends are the rule here and these are character-filled efforts that could come from nowhere else. Highly recommended.
