This prestigious collection comes to Iron Gate from a revered connoisseur and long-time wine collector. Lover of American wines, he spent many years sourcing them from some of the USA's finest properties and had them stored professionally at 55 Degrees in Napa Valley. Recognizing his cellar had grown far beyond what he could reasonably consume, he's brought the wines to auction to share with fellow enthusiasts.
The rating for 2011 Auteur Manchester Ridge Pinot Noir Mendocino Ridge is 90 points from Robert Parker and the tasting note - Darker, more earthy and spicy is the 2011 Pinot Noir Manchester Ridge, for which 15% whole clusters were used as well as 50% new oak. A deeper colored, more muscular style of Pinot Noir, it reveals blacker fruits in addition to spice box characteristics. Drink it over the next 4-5 years. The rating for 2012 Wayfarer Pinot Noir Fort Ross Seaview is 94 points from Robert Parker and the tasting note - Medium to deep ruby-purple in color, the 2012 Pinot Noir Wayfarer Vineyard has an understated earthy/meaty nose over a core of dried mulberries and kirsch plus a waft of potpourri. Medium to full-bodied, there is a generous amount of savory and red berry preserves flesh filling the palate, with soft, velvety tannins and just enough freshness, finishing with a bit of spiciness coming through.
