Producer Notes for 2011 Domaine Daniel Rion Echezeaux Grand Cru - Domaine Daniel Rion et Fils is a former Burgundian wine estate once based in the village of Premeaux, just south of Nuits-Saint-Georges. The winery made a range of wines from across the Côte de Nuits. The domaine's array of vineyard holdings, which spanned vines across Vougeot, Flagey-Echézeaux, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Vosne-Romanée, and Chambolle-Musigny were divided between Rion's daughter and sons in 2022. Although no longer producing wines, labels may still be encountered at merchants and in the secondary (auction) market. The origins of the estate go back to 1955, when Daniel Rion inherited two hectares (five acres) of his father's vineyards in Vosne-Romanée. For the next 40 years, Rion gradually expanded this initial holding and by the early 2000s, the domaine consisted of 20 hectares (50 acres) of cultivated vineyards. When Daniel Rion retired in 1995, he passed the responsibilities of the family business to his four children - Patrice, Christophe, Olivier and Pascale. Winemaker Patrice left to set up his own estate, Domaine Michèle et Patrice Rion, in 2000, and from 2000 to 2022, Domaine Daniel Rion et Fils was overseen by the remaining Rion siblings.
