A collector, based in Toronto, became interested in wine while visiting his father-in-law in Hong Kong over 60 years ago. He also owned a restaurant that had an impressive wine list and was was able to visit many wineries throughout France. He continued collecting after selling the restaurant with most of his bottles purchased upon release from the LCBO. He took meticulous care of his wine, labeling many of the bottles and storing them in a temperature and humidity controlled cellar in his home.
"The score for1999 Clos des Papes Chateauneuf du Pape is 94 from Robert Parker and this is the tasting note -A solid step up over the '98, the Close des Papes 1999 Chateauneuf du Pape (one of Paul-Vincent's favorites) offers a more youthful color to go with Burgundian notes of spice, dried flowers, black cherries and licorice. More fresh and lively, with medium to full-bodied richness, it has a youthful feel and has another decade of longevity. "The score for 2000 Clos des Papes Chateauneuf du Pape is 95 from Robert Parker and this is the tasting note -The Burgundian-styled 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape is drinking at point today. Possessing beautiful notes of forest floor, truffles, spice, garrigue and sweet cherry and kirsch like fruit, this beauty has notable freshness and purity, medium to full-bodied richness, fine tannin and a layered, integrated texture that keeps you coming back to the glass. There's no need to delay gratification here and I'd enjoy bottles over the coming 4-5 years. The score for2001 Clos des Papes Chateauneuf du Pape is 95 from Robert Parker and this is the tasting note -While the 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape shows some bricking at the rim and scents of leather, pepper and soy sauce on first opening, be patient with it. With a bit of time in the glass, it blossoms, transforming into a swirl of pressed flowers and ripe cherries. Full-bodied, rich and still packed with potential at age 20, it finishes silky and long, with echoes of licorice and spice. At least based on this bottle, prospective drinkers will want to consider decanting an hour or so in advance.
